Match Preview: Stoke City vs Rotherham United

Second-round cup action against The Millers gives Stoke an opportunity to give the squad a shakeup.

After what was ultimately a disappointing defeat against Millwall on Saturday many Stoke fans will

expect a bounce back to winning ways with a win against Rotherham United in the Carabao Cup.

Here’s everything you need to know about The Potters' upcoming cup clash against The Millers…

Team News

One of the key takeaways from the loss against Millwall was that Neil is still undecided about what

his best line-up is.

As the squad has endured a real shake-up this season it's to be expected that some mistakes will be made along the way and the squad does need time to gel. This is where cup games will come into play.

It allows Neil to see which players link up well and which don’t. Who works best in what formation and who needs more time to progress? Michael O’Neil did a fantastic job of this during his tenure starting young players such as Harry Souttar and Nathan Collins in the cup. This gave them a good amount of experience before starting in the league and their success at Stoke is undeniable.

Players such as Sol Sidibe should feature against The Millers after his excellent performance against

The Baggies in the first round of the cup. New signings Nikola Jojic and Wouter Burger could start to inject a needed intensity to the squad which was severely lacking against Millwall.

Tyrese Campbell could also start after returning from injury to allow him to get up to speed and

hopefully return to the Campbell of old. Campbell's return could see Vidigal being dropped to the

bench after a poor game against Millwall despite terrorising the Rotherham defence in the league

this season.

Predicted starting XI against The Millers:

(GK) Travers, Tymon, McNally, Wilmot, Hoever, Sidibe, Burger, Laurent, Campbell, Mmaee, Jojic

Opposition Player To Look Out For

Fred Onyedinma has had a good start to the season for Rotherham United. Scoring 2 goals in 4

appearances for The Millers the attacking midfielder could potentially cause havoc in the final third.

Being good on both feet and in the air, Onyedinma could create trouble for Stoke City's defence.

Form Guide

Rotherham United are still looking for their first win of the season within 90 minutes. Winning only

one game so far this season (a penalty win in the Carabao Cup against Morecambe), drawing 1 and losing 3.

The Millers have certainly been struggling so far this season and will be eager to boost morale with a win against Stoke on Tuesday. The Potters will look to repeat the same performance from earlier on in the season which saw them cruise to a 4-1 victory against The Millers.
