Match Preview: Stoke vs QPR

Stoke City will hope to bounce back after their disastrous loss against QPR under the lights at Loftus Road.

Terrible. That would be what best describes The Potter’sperformance against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. With their 5-game unbeaten streak ending The Potters attention now turns to relegation candidates QPR.

If there is any fixture which gives The Potters a chance to return to winning ways, it’s this one.

Here’s everything you need to know about The Potter’s upcoming game against The Hoops…

Team News

On the injury front, there is not much to report Ben Wilmot is still on the sidelines and Lewis Baker is back in training getting back to full fitness.

One positive to take away from the Blackburn game was the return of Tyresse Campbell from injury. The striker looked dangerous when he came on and constantly put pressure on Blackburn’s back line.

Hopefully, Campbell can add a much-needed finishing touch to a side which has now gone 3 games in a row without scoring a goal.

Predicted starting XI against QPR:

(GK) Bonham, Stevens, Rose, McNally, Hoever, Johnson, Burger, Pearson, Junho, Campbell, Vidigal

Opposition Manager

Marti Cifuentes has a difficult job on his hands. QPR are currently sitting 23rd after a disastrous spell under Gareth Ainsworth. However, Marti Cifuentes does have the potential to turn the tide.

Cifuentes’s former club Hammarby finished in third place and put them in contention for European football during his tenure.

When attacking Cifuentes likes his teams to create superiority in the first line by dropping one of the midfielders and aims to stretch the opposition's defence to make spaces in the attacking third.

Once his teams are in the opposition half their main aim Is to create confusion and exploit space through dynamic movements. A large proportion of his team's attacking ability is attributed to the variety of combinations they use.

When defending Cifuentes wants his teams to adopt a mid-block minimising space and waiting for any pressing triggers. Cifuentes wants his teams to press high and counter through pressing traps such as forcing the opposition out wide and having a full back jump and press using the touchline as an additional defender.

Head-to-Head

As many Potters fans know Stoke's record in the capital is not the best and this is further emphasised when looking at The Potters' overall record against QPR.

QPR are by far the most successful team winning 21, drawing 11 and losing 13 of their encounters against The Potters.
