We Are Stoke Player Ratings after an awful penalty decision allows Swansea to steal the 3 points as Jack Clarke shines – Swansea (H)

After a Hard-working and decent Stoke City Performance at the Bet365 Stadium ended up in defeat after a poor penalty decision from referee David Webb, here are my player ratings after tonight’s game:

Angus Gunn – 6 – Lucky after spilling it into no-mans land. Made a fantastic save from Roberts effort.

Tommy Smith – 6.5 – Lost his man for the goal but went on to have a good game, couple of good crosses especially the one to Fletcher and unlucky not to score his long-range effort.

Harry Souttar – 6.5 – Minor mistake in the build up to Swansea’s first, Contained Ayew and Lowe really well. Aerially dominant as always.

Danny Batth – 6 – Nasty looking cut forced him off at half time. Won a couple of good headers and caused issues with his physicality in the opposition box.

James Chester – 6.5 – Should’ve scored early into the second half, gave a helping hand to Souttar in containing Ayew, showed leadership qualities.

Rhys Norrington-Davies – 6 – Not bad, but not particularly good either, at fault for the first Swansea goal and never got a handle on Man of The Match Connor Roberts.

John-Obi Mikel ( C ) – 6 – Held the shape together both in the 5-3-2 and 4-2-3-1, tried a few times to drive Stoke forward to no avail. Squeezed out of a few tight spots with the ball.

Joe Allen – 7 – Really turned up in the 2nd half , played a few nice balls towards Smith and Brown on the right-hand side and Powell through the middle. Made a lot of clearances from set pieces tonight too.

Nick Powell – 7.5 – Linked with Fletcher well as usual, took his goal extremely well and was a part of everything positive for Stoke before being taken off on 86 minutes.

Jacob Brown – 6 – Worked hard as usual and his pressing forced the mistake from Guehi that led to the goal. Should’ve done better when he managed to slip in behind.

Steven Fletcher – 7 – Instinctive assist for Powell of whom he linked well with all game, constantly tried to offer himself for the ball and managed to draw a few fouls. Should’ve scored from close range after a super cross from Smith.

Jack Clarke – 7 – Gave away a penalty that never should’ve been, awful decision from the referee that overshadowed an otherwise superb performance from Clarke off the bench, occupied their full back well, drew a lot of good fouls in good areas and was unlucky not to get the break on a few occasions, clear to see why MON is keen to keep him next season.

Jordan Thompson - 6 – Brought on to try and secure a point and did extremely well defensively when put under pressure by Connor Roberts. Didn’t play long enough to warrant a higher score.

Substitutes not used: Adam Davies, Will Forrester, Joshua Tymon, Jordan Cousins, Tashan Oakley-Boothe, Christian Phelps-Norton, Sam Vokes

Referee: David Webb – 1 – Worst decision I’ve personally ever seen from an official and there’s a strong argument that Swansea left-back Ryan Manning should’ve been sent off for a second bookable offense.

Overall Stoke Performance Rating: 6.5 – Should’ve finished one or two chances before Swansea’s penalty was given to put the game to bed but no dispute that Stoke deserved a point from the game against Swansea and should have gotten it.
