Match Review: Potters thrash Millers on Opening Day of the 23/24 Season.

What a start to the 23/24 campaign for Alex Neil’s Stoke City as The Potters tore apart Rotherham, with a very dominant performance from Stoke whose new signings began showing their individual flare.

Stoke made it one nil in the 5th minute of the game with a wonder volley courtesy of Wolves loanee Ki-Jana Hoever. Chants of Hoever, swiftly made their way round the stadium as Alex Neil looked on like a very proud father.

Two goals in quick succession came on the stroke of half time as new signing Andre Vidigal got off the mark with two very neat finishes to make it 3-0 to The Potters.

A slight scare came in the 46th minute as half time substitute, Lee Peltier pulled one back for The Millers. However, hopes of a late comeback for our visitors, were then lost, as their new signing Cafu was sent off in a arguably harsh manner. Although, Potters fans definitely didn't mind.

A perfect afternoon was provided with a perfect ending as Jacob Brown slotted home his effort, following a corner to make it 4-1before added time.

Manager Reaction:

Neil said :”Yeah. Listen, it's not all going to go that way. It’s easy for me to sit here with a big cheesy grin on my face because it went well but there are going to be difficult days that will come along”.

“I hope the fans can see that and I thought the fans’ backing today for the players was brilliant and that makes a big, big difference.”
