Stoke vs Wycombe Player Ratings

We Are Stoke Player Ratings after defenders share the goals – Wycombe (H)

Following an impressive performance from the Potters at the Bet365 Stadium in a 2-0 win over Wycombe here are the player ratings:

Angus Gunn – 6.5 – Not one of his busiest games but made a crucial save when he was called upon, kept a clean sheet, and commanded his area well, very loud too.

Tommy Smith – 6.5 – Hit and miss with his crosses but put in an honest shift as always, kept Wycombe’s left-hand side quiet.

Harry Souttar – 8 – Dominant in the air and a rock at the heart of defence, Marked and Wrestled Ikpeazu out of the game, rewarded with his first goal for the club from a corner. Unsurprisingly.

James Chester – 7 – Did what he had to defensively, never should have been booked and works well as a pair with Souttar.

Rhys Norrington-Davies – 8.5 – Scored a wonderfully well worked first goal for the club, bags of energy and pace, linked well with Jack Clarke on the left and was unlucky not to have scored a second after Clarke flicked him through on goal.

John Obi-Mikel ( C ) – 6.5 – Was used as a conveyor belt to keep the ball moving in midfield, one of his better games in recent memory and did his bit defensively.

Joe Allen – 6 – Always offered himself as an option to pass to, got into some great areas using his running but his rating comes down due to a poor open goal miss from 4 yards out.

Nick Powell – 8 – Unlucky not to score early with a good header, goal in the first half shouldn’t have been disallowed, put himself about physically as expected from him by this point before being taken off to avoid a second yellow or injury on the 86th minute, will be such a crucial player for O’Neill going forward.

Jacob Brown – 6 – Got into some good crossing positions but ultimately his final ball let him down, unlucky not to score when Powell’s ball flashed across the 6-yard box and worked hard as always before being taken off 9 minutes into the 2nd half in favour of Tashan Oakley-Boothe.

Steven Fletcher – 7.5 – Telepathic understanding between himself, Powell, and Clarke, caused major issues for Wycombe all game and Did extremely well with the one-two assist for the first goal.

Jack Clarke – 7.5 – Best game in a Stoke shirt so far, took his man on at every chance he got, delivery from the corner for Stoke’s 2nd was absolutely sublime , linked well down the left-hand side with Rhys Norrington-Davies and nearly set him up for a 2nd.

Substitutes:

Tashan Oakley-Boothe – 6.5 – Looked suited to the right-wing, possibly a position to develop him in like Collins at right-back and Campbell on the same right-wing, was unlucky to see his low ball towards Clarke cut out and may have had an assist had it slipped through.

Jordan Thompson – 6 – Came on to sure things up and play tidy passes, got Stoke moving and made a few forward runs after coming on late for Powell.

Substitutes not used: Adam Davies, Danny Batth, Will Forrester, Joshua Tymon, Jordan Cousins, Rabbi Matondo, Sam Vokes

Referee: Andy Woolmer – 5 – An improvement from the poor officiating in the week but still gave out too many unnecessary yellow cards both ways.

Overall Stoke Performance Rating: 7.5 – Should’ve won by more considering the amount of clear-cut chances we had, took our 2 goals extremely well, outplayed Wycombe as expected and a good, well-deserved, and much needed 3 points on the board for Stoke.
