What can Stoke City expect from Romaine Sawyers?

PIC: Sawyers struggled to put his mark on The Premier League with West Bromwich Albion.

Telegraph reporter John Percy announced on Thursday evening that Stoke would soon complete the signing of Romaine Sawyers on a season long loan deal from his boyhood club West Bromwich Albion.

Sawyers is in the middle of his second stint with West Bromwich Albion after signing from Brentford for £3m back in July 2019. Since his return to The Hawthorns, Sawyers played his part in getting WBA promoted to the Premier League but The Baggies have since been relegated and have changed managers with former Barnsley boss Valérien Ismaël taking the reigns which has ultimately led to Saywers falling out of favour under the new boss.

We wanted to know what Stoke could really be getting in Romaine Saywers who is vastly experienced at this level so we spoke to West Brom Fan TV to gauge the thoughts of Baggies fans on their academy graduate.

Q: What are your thoughts on Sawyers in general?

A: "He's quite lazy to be honest and definitely wouldn't of suited our new managers style of play. He's got a half decent pass at times but that's about it but he is incredibly lazy."

Q: What about your promotion season? What were your thoughts on him then?

A: "He was still very lazy, not really a fans favourite. We all expected more from him."

Q: So it's safe to say that he was underwhelming from your perspective, How would you rate his attitude on a scale of 1-10?

A: "5"

Q: Do you think that he will suit Stoke's possession based style of play more compared to Ismaël's high intensity style?

A: "I think that the style of play that you guys use will benefit him better, so hopefully he does well for you guys."

Q: Why do you think he wasn't included in Valerien's plans for the season?

A: "I don't think he fits the new style of play that Ismael wants. He is very lazy like I said before and that simply would've caused him not to play."

Q: Anything to add regarding his time at Brentford and potentially what type of player you thought you were adding when you signed him?

A: "He was very good at Brentford and the fans seemed to love him. It's a shame that it hasn't worked out for him here because I genuinely have nothing against the guy, I just don't think he's a good footballer."

It's clear to see that the one time academy graduate failed to set the world alight in his second stint with The Baggies which means he has a point to prove under Michael O Neill at Stoke City.

Stoke will be looking to get him back to his form that he was renowned for at Brentford which was the base of his love affair with The Bees faithful.

The St Kitts & Nevis Midfielder turns 30 in November and made 42 appearances in West Brom's promotion season back in 2019/20.
